I am getting more info, rumors and hints about AMDs upcoming release. The code name for this release is Hawaii. For some reason the last couple releases and all of the releases on the radar are named after Pacific islands.

So what I am hearing is that soon to be released R7 and R9 cards have a little secret. The R9-290 and R9-290X cards are the only real "new" cards. All of the others are "re-brands" of current cards. Unfortunately this has become common practice for both Nvidia and AMD. The silver lining is that the upcoming release has caused price cuts on currents cards and there are some good deals to be had. The other nice side effect is that Nvidia is feeling the pressure and has started to slightly drop their prices. That should accelerate if the new AMD cards are competitive.

For those interested. The R9-290 is rumored to be a $400-$450 card and the R9-290X is rumored to be a $550-$600 card. Not bad considering the 290X is supposed to slightly out-perform the $1000 Nvidia Titan. (I am likely to be getting a R9-290)
